Huynh Ngoc Hieu, a former student of Hope School, became the first recipient among 200 full scholarships awarded under the “Connecting Love” project. In addition to the full scholarship, he also receives housing and living support throughout his four years at the university.
Hieu comes from Ben Tre Province and once had a warm, happy family. Although his family’s financial situation was modest, he always felt fortunate to be loved and cared for by his parents. However, a major tragedy struck when he was in 11th grade — the COVID-19 pandemic took away his beloved father. The loss was a devastating shock, and Hieu could never have imagined life without his father. His passing also meant the loss of the family’s main breadwinner, forcing Hieu’s mother to give up her role as a homemaker of 16 years and start working to provide for the family.
During this difficult time, Hieu was welcomed and supported by Hope School in Da Nang, which eased part of the burden on his mother’s frail shoulders. This gave Hieu new hope, helping him overcome hardship and continue pursuing his dreams.
Currently, Hieu is studying Medical Laboratory Technology after being admitted to the university through the 2023 National High School Exam with a solid score of 22.4. His goal goes beyond completing this program — his greater ambition is to continue his studies in Medicine to fulfill his dream of becoming an obstetrician.

The “Connecting Love” project was born from compassion, kindness, and empathy through an agreement between Phan Chau Trinh University and FPT Corporation in 2022. Under this initiative, students who lost their parents due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are being raised by Hope School receive free annual health check-ups and medical care from the university. In addition, the program commits to offering 200 full scholarships to those who wish to pursue health science programs at the university, giving them access to quality education and the chance to nurture their dreams.
It is hoped that this scholarship will further motivate Ngoc Hieu to overcome challenges, continue building his career path, and one day become a skilled and compassionate doctor.
