On the afternoon of August 27, at Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU), Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Van – Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Head of the Student Affairs Office – accompanied freshmen in the thematic session “Starting Here: Every Choice Shapes Your Future,” offering practical insights into their journey of learning, personal growth, and shaping their identity throughout their university years.

“After four or six years of university, what kind of person do you want to become?”. This opening question encouraged each student to look beyond the destination and reflect on the journey ahead. The future is not determined only on graduation day, but is shaped by the small choices we make every day: how we study, how we use our time, whether we take the initiative or wait for others to push us forward, and whether we are willing to take responsibility for our own decisions.
Through situations closely connected to student life, Dr. Thanh Van emphasized the importance of self-direction and a sense of responsibility when entering the university environment, helping students understand that the choices they make today contribute to shaping the person they will become in the future.
Through the session, freshmen were introduced to five important values: taking ownership of their lives, learning with integrity, living positively, daring to experience new things, and taking responsibility. For PCTU students pursuing health-related fields, their university years are also a journey of nurturing intellectual, emotional, and physical strength, gradually developing the professional competence, resilience, and empathy needed to become high-quality healthcare professionals capable of caring for patients in both physical and emotional aspects.
The future begins with the choices we make today. Four or six years from now, what kind of person do you want to become? And if you could choose just ONE thing to start doing right now, what would you choose to become a better version of yourself on graduation day?
