Afraid of blood but choosing medicine, female student becomes 2026 entrance valedictorian

Nguyễn Trần Hà My – a first-year student in class 26YK1, majoring in Medicine, is the 2026 Entrance Valedictorian of Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU), based on the results of the National High School Graduation Examination, with a score of 25.17 in the B00 subject combination.
 

In recognition of this achievement, the University awarded Hà My the Entrance Valedictorian Scholarship, covering 50% of one semester's tuition fee.

Coming from Ly Tu Trong High School in Khanh Hoa Province, Hà My entered medical school with a dream that had taken shape during her high school years: to become a doctor.

Since high school, Hà My was encouraged to consider a career in medicine by her father, who is a doctor. However, her decision to pursue Medicine was not simply the result of family guidance. Hà My loves children and hopes to become a pediatrician in the future. To her, being a doctor is a noble and meaningful profession because beyond medical expertise lies the responsibility for patients' health and lives.

Interestingly, this first-year medical student once had a fear of blood. Rather than seeing it as a reason to give up, Hà My chose to turn that fear into a personal challenge. For her, studying Medicine is also a way to step outside her comfort zone and gradually overcome what she is still afraid of.

After deciding to pursue Medicine, Hà My carefully researched the curriculum, tuition fees, and opportunities that a university environment could offer. What impressed her about PCTU was its international medical program, where she can study professional knowledge while also having an environment in which to use and develop her foreign language skills.

With an IELTS score of 6.0, Hà My hopes this opportunity will help her improve her language skills throughout her medical studies, while also providing opportunities to interact, exchange ideas, and access knowledge in a diverse learning environment.

While many of her classmates chose to take the competency assessment examination of Vietnam National University, Hà My decided to devote all her efforts to the National High School Graduation Examination. Watching her friends receive their results one by one and knowing that they had secured university admission early made her feel pressured at times. However, instead of changing direction, Hà My chose to go “all in” on the goal she had set for herself.

Behind this achievement was a process of self-study and preparation, together with the support of her teachers and parents. For Hà My, the score of 25.17 was not the result of her efforts alone, but also a reflection of the people who accompanied her throughout the long months of exam preparation. Her choice was ultimately rewarded with a special achievement: becoming the Entrance Valedictorian of PCTU's K.26 cohort.

Over the next six years, she hopes to study hard, complete the medical program, and work toward the goal of pursuing postgraduate medical training after graduation. Hà My aspires to become a skilled doctor with the confidence, integrity, and knowledge to provide care for people in need.

She also has an image to remind herself of the years ahead: seeing senior students standing on the PCTU stage to receive recognition for their academic achievements. Hà My hopes that one day she will also stand in that position, but with achievements that she has earned through six years of her own efforts.

A score of 25.17 in the B00 subject combination brought Hà My the title of Entrance Valedictorian. Her IELTS 6.0 provides a foundation for her to further expand her learning capabilities. And the white coat marks the beginning of a much longer journey – a journey from a high school student in Khanh Hoa to the doctor Hà My is gradually striving to become.
