Dental medicine students kick off their fourth year with clinical practice

On September 7, 2026, the Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology at Phan Chau Trinh University organized the handover of 22 fourth-year Dental Medicine students from Class 23RHM1 for their clinical training in the Oral and Maxillofacial Diseases 2 course at three hospitals: Phan Chau Trinh University of Medicine Hospital, Northern Quang Nam Regional General Hospital, and Quang Nam Regional General Hospital.

The clinical training period runs from September 7 to October 16, 2026, as part of the clinical training plan for the first semester of the 2026–2027 academic year. This is an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge they have acquired in the hospital setting, directly interact with patients, and gradually develop their competencies in examining, diagnosing, monitoring, and treating oral and maxillofacial diseases.

Over the six-week training period, students will gain hands-on experience with various groups of diseases:

  • Week 1: Examination and diagnosis of oral mucosal diseases.
  • Week 2: Examination, diagnosis, and treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders and atypical facial pain.
  • Week 3: Examination, diagnosis, and treatment of maxillofacial tumors and cysts.
  • Week 4: Examination, diagnosis, and treatment of salivary gland diseases.
  • Week 5: Examination, diagnosis, and treatment of cervical and facial lymph node diseases and maxillofacial cancers.
  • Week 6: Completion of medical records and final clinical examination.

During the clinical training program, in addition to professional knowledge, students will develop essential skills for professional practice, including taking medical histories, conducting clinical examinations, preparing and monitoring medical records, communicating with patients and their families, coordinating with healthcare professionals, and practicing clinical skills and procedures under the guidance and supervision of physicians and lecturers.

At the handover ceremony at Northern Quang Nam Regional General Hospital, Dr. Le Tan Dung, Specialist Level II, Head of the Hospital's Department of Odonto-Stomatology, expressed his hope that the students would learn and gain valuable experience during their training. The hospital's doctors and healthcare staff will accompany and guide the students as mentors and experienced colleagues, readily sharing their knowledge and experience throughout the students' learning and clinical practice.

The fourth year begins with days of clinical training in the hospital. From the first days of becoming familiar with examination procedures, accessing medical records and interacting with patients, to practicing clinical skills across different groups of diseases, the 22 students of Class 23RHM1 will have six weeks to gain deeper insight into the work of a Dental Medicine doctor in a real-world clinical setting.
