In early March, Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU) continuously welcomed lecturers and academic experts from Bond University (Australia) to work and exchange professional expertise. These activities follow the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in October 2025, gradually realizing collaborative initiatives in training, research, and medical program development.

Previously, in February 2026, a delegation from PCTU visited and worked at Bond University to discuss curriculum structure, competency-based learning outcomes, clinical student assessment mechanisms, and the role of simulation in standardizing skills before students enter hospital environments.
One of the highlights of this series of activities is the professional development workshop “Teaching on the Run (ToTR)” – a clinical educator training model widely adopted by medical schools around the world. The program focuses on improving the effectiveness of student supervision in hospital settings while optimizing the organization of clinical teaching sessions in real-world conditions.
Following the program in Australia, ToTR continued to be implemented at PCTU with the participation of experts from Bond University. In particular, Dr. Jessica Stokes-Parish – Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Service Quality – directly facilitated the sessions, combined with online training modules conducted by Associate Professor Conor Gilligan. Through topics such as Clinical Teaching and Skills Teaching, PCTU’s lecturers and physician-educators had opportunities to exchange expertise with international colleagues while accessing modern pedagogical approaches in medical education.

Welcoming Associate Professor Cindy Jones during the professional exchange meeting
Alongside faculty development activities, both institutions have also actively discussed building training frameworks and learning experiences for students in exchange and clinical internship programs.
During the recent visit to PCTU, Associate Professor Cindy Jones – Co-Director of the Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMedSt) program and Academic Lead for International Partnerships in East and Southeast Asia at Bond University – worked with PCTU’s academic units to discuss establishing and developing training programs for the next phase.

According to this orientation, students will participate in direct clinical skills practice, medical simulation training, and specialized workshops, combined with study visits to hospitals, community healthcare facilities, and various healthcare delivery models.
The program aims to develop clinical reasoning, medical communication skills, documentation and patient handover competencies, while also training essential procedures such as intravenous line insertion, blood sampling, wound suturing, and airway management. In addition, students will have opportunities to access advanced training topics such as Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in a supervised learning environment.
In fact, the partnership between the two universities has already begun to produce tangible outcomes. PCTU has welcomed groups of students from Bond University for clinical placements, demonstrating that the university’s training environment and hospital system meet the rigorous standards of international medical programs.
Conversely, these collaborative activities are also opening opportunities for PCTU students to access international academic environments and gradually participate in the global network of medical education.
Through faculty development, academic exchanges, and program development for students, the connection between PCTU and Bond University is gradually forming a sustainable academic ecosystem, contributing to improving training quality and promoting the internationalization of medical education.
