On October 2nd and 3rd, Phan Chau Trinh University organized a Medical Student Residency Examination, attracting the participation of more than 20 sixth-year medical students.
The Medical Student Residency Examination is a new initiative proposed by the University Council and held for the first time at Phan Chau Trinh University of Medicine. Its goal is to enhance the professional competence of future doctors before graduation while giving students the opportunity to experience residency training during their studies.
This marks an important milestone and represents a significant innovation in medical education. Fifth- and sixth-year medical students are eligible to register for the exam, which covers four specialties: Internal Medicine, Surgery

Participants in the examination must complete two components: a theoretical test and a clinical case assessment at the hospital.
In the theoretical section, students answer 60 multiple-choice questions on their registered specialty using a computer-based format. In the clinical case assessment, each student will draw a random case based on their chosen specialty, then prepare and complete the case record, conduct a patient examination, and respond to interview questions from the evaluation committee for that specialty.
The evaluation committee is composed of distinguished clinical lecturers with postgraduate qualifications, representing eight affiliated teaching hospitals within the university’s system. Students who excel in the examination will have the opportunity to undertake their entire internship and training at the hospital, while also receiving special benefits and priority policies from the university — making this examination both highly competitive and appealing.
As an annual academic initiative, the Medical Student Residency Examination aims to foster a culture of academic rigor among all students and attract more young medical talents to participate in the coming years.
