A First-Year Student Receives a Scholarship Worth Over 600 Million VND

Nguyen Thanh Trong, a freshman of the 25th cohort in the Medical Doctor program at Phan Chau Trinh University, from Dong Thap Province, has been awarded a full scholarship worth over 600 million VND. The scholarship is part of the “Connecting Love” project — a collaboration between Phan Chau Trinh University and FPT Corporation for students of Hope School, implemented since 2022.

For Trong, this scholarship is not only a reward but also a turning point in his life. Born into a humble family, he experienced great loss early on when his father passed away from illness, and later the COVID-19 pandemic took his mother — the only pillar of support for the three siblings. Since then, they have relied on each other to overcome the most challenging days.

In 10th grade, Trong was accepted into Hope School, which became his second home — a place that helped him regain faith, strength, and the will to study. His younger sister, now in 9th grade at the same school, is following in his footsteps on the path of resilience and perseverance.

Sharing about his journey to Phan Chau Trinh University, Trong said:

“After learning about the university through its website and social media, I was truly impressed by its liberal education approach, the Institute–University model, and the on-campus simulation hospital where students can study and practice clinical skills from their first year. I felt that this is a serious and professional environment that will help me train myself and get closer to my dream of becoming a doctor. When I received the email announcing that I had been awarded the full scholarship, I burst into tears of happiness. The first person I shared the news with was my older sister.”

Now, as a medical student at Phan Chau Trinh University, Trong maintains a positive learning attitude and strives every day to become a skilled and compassionate doctor. His story is a vivid testament to the power of perseverance and faith, showing how education can open new doors for those who have faced hardship.

The “Connecting Love” project was established to support students heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially those who lost family members. The program offers opportunities to study at Phan Chau Trinh University for students passionate about health sciences, including Medicine, Dentistry, General Nursing, Dental Nursing, and Medical Laboratory Technology.

In the 2025–2026 academic year, in addition to Trong, the university awarded two more full scholarships to Hope School students admitted to the Nursing and Medical Laboratory Technology programs. To date, Phan Chau Trinh University has granted a total of seven full scholarships under this project, reaffirming its commitment to providing learning opportunities for underprivileged students and nurturing their aspiration to pursue a career in medicine.
