PCTU Students Practice Wound Suturing Simulation with Michigan State University Experts

On July 15, Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU) continued its advanced training series with the workshop entitled "Integrating Simulation into Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME)," presented by Associate Professor Mary Kay Smith, Ph.D., Director of the Learning and Assessment Center, Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (USA).
 

The workshop focused on the role of simulation in modern medical education and explored strategies for integrating simulation into competency-based curricula to enhance teaching quality, assess learner competencies, and improve patient safety in clinical practice.

Following the presentation, Associate Professor Mary Kay Smith, Ph.D., met with PCTU leaders and faculty members to discuss the integration of simulation into the University's academic programs, evaluate the current utilization of simulation facilities, and exchange perspectives on the challenges of implementing this educational model.

At the Preclinical Simulation Hospital, Associate Professor Mary Kay Smith, Ph.D., directly observed simulation-based teaching activities and student competency assessments. During the hands-on session, PCTU students practiced wound suturing under faculty supervision while the expert evaluated the training organization, instructional methods, and students' practical competencies.

The program also included discussions on faculty development strategies for simulation educators, a key component in building a comprehensive simulation-based education system that meets international standards.

The series of workshops with Associate Professor Mary Kay Smith, Ph.D., will continue in the coming days, covering topics including simulation center accreditation, the strategic development of the Preclinical Simulation Hospital, and pathways toward meeting international standards.
