On October 6, the Faculty of Nursing at Phan Chau Trinh University held a handover ceremony for fourth-year students from classes 22DD1 and 22DD2, officially commencing their internship at Quang Nam Psychiatric Hospital and Dong Thap Psychiatric Hospital. This internship is part of the Mental Health Care Practice module for the first semester of the 2025–2026 academic year.
During the two-week period, from October 6 to 17, students will engage in intensive clinical practice, including: caring for patients with suicidal thoughts or behaviors, managing agitated patients, assisting patients who refuse to eat, guiding patients in taking oral and injectable medications, supporting patients with personal hygiene, and providing care for patients experiencing agitation or drug withdrawal.
Students are scheduled for shifts from Monday to Sunday, following a five-shift rotation system. Each student will complete two night shifts per clinical credit.
A representative from Quang Nam Psychiatric Hospital shared many valuable insights with the students.
According to MSc. Dang Thi Nguyen Chi, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Nursing, the internship program at Quang Nam Psychiatric Hospital and Dong Thap Psychiatric Hospital offers students an opportunity to strengthen their professional knowledge and skills while fostering a proper and compassionate professional attitude.
Through real-world experience, students are able to develop the core competencies required of university-level nurses — including providing comprehensive, safe, and effective patient care; managing and coordinating nursing activities; communicating and working in teams; applying evidence-based practice; and upholding ethical and legal standards in the nursing profession.
