On the afternoon of June 8, 2026, Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU) officially launched its AI-powered Smart Library at Hall C101 of the Simulation Hospital. As the first artificial intelligence product developed entirely by the University's own team, the platform marks a significant milestone in PCTU's strategy to build a digital medical education ecosystem and foster innovation in healthcare education.

The launch event brought together faculty members, physicians, staff, and students from across the University. Participants had the opportunity to experience the platform firsthand and explore how artificial intelligence can support learning, scientific research, and clinical practice.
The AI-powered Smart Library was developed by the Deep Medicine Unit (DMU) using the technology infrastructure invested in and operated by PCTU. Following five months of intensive development—including server infrastructure construction, model training, application development, and real-world testing—the first phase of the system has been successfully completed and officially deployed.
During the development process, DMU adopted MedGemma 27B, an advanced open-source large language model developed by Google and optimized for healthcare applications. However, the core value of the platform lies not only in the AI model itself but also in PCTU's proprietary medical knowledge ecosystem, enabling AI to access, analyze, and connect trusted learning resources to support both students and faculty.
Instead of spending hours searching through thousands of scientific articles and reference materials, users can simply ask questions in natural language. The system automatically retrieves, synthesizes, and generates answers based on PCTU's digital library resources together with internationally recognized medical databases such as Europe PMC, PubMed, MedlinePlus, AAFP, and many other open-access resources.
Every response is accompanied by clear citations, allowing users to verify information, consult original references, and enhance the quality of learning, research, and clinical decision-making.
For students, the platform significantly reduces the time required to search for academic resources while providing faster access to accurate and reliable information. As a result, more time can be devoted to learning, critical analysis, and the practical application of medical knowledge.
Quynh Anh, a third-year Dentistry student, shared:
“After using the platform, I found it extremely helpful. Previously, I spent a great deal of time searching for suitable references whenever I prepared presentations. Now, the system helps me find exactly what I need much more quickly and conveniently. I hope it will continue to be developed and provide even better experiences for users in the future.”
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tung, Chairman of the University Council, described the AI-powered Smart Library as a highly practical innovation that contributes to strengthening the University's educational ecosystem while aligning with PCTU's long-term strategy of integrating healthcare education with science and technology.
According to Dr. Nguyen Huu Tung, biomedical technology, stem cells, big data, and artificial intelligence will serve as key pillars of future medical education. The development of the AI-powered Smart Library represents a concrete step toward realizing that vision.
More than just a search tool, the AI-powered Smart Library creates a personalized learning environment that enables learners to access knowledge more quickly, accurately, and efficiently. It also reflects PCTU's commitment to research, technological innovation, and educational excellence as the University continues to build a modern medical education environment for the future.
