One day of visiting, four years of pursuing a medical dream

In the early days of June, Tran Ho Tuyet Nhan, a fourth-year medical student from class 22YK1 at Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU), remains busy with her clinical internship at the Obstetrics Department of Quang Nam Regional General Hospital.
 

Few people know that four years ago, before becoming a medical student, Nhan had already been admitted to an economics program at another university and seemed to have her future path planned out.

In 2022, when standing at the threshold of university life, Nhan was torn between two completely different fields: Economics and Medicine. Although she had already gained admission to an economics-related program, she was not entirely certain that it was the path she wanted to pursue in the long term.

While exploring additional options, Nhan was introduced to Phan Chau Trinh University by a friend of her mother. Curious about medical education, she visited the university together with a friend.

That visit changed the 18-year-old student's decision.

"What impressed me most was the facilities dedicated to medical education, especially the anatomy laboratory with donated cadavers. Being able to visit in person and learn about the curriculum gave me a much clearer understanding of the learning environment and the path I would follow if I chose Medicine," Nhan shared.

After the visit, she returned home and discussed her options with her family. With the support of her loved ones, Nhan decided to give up the program she had already been admitted to and enroll in the Doctor of Medicine program at PCTU.

Four years later, that decision continues to shape her journey through clinical coursework and her internship at the Obstetrics Department of Quang Nam Regional General Hospital.

Interestingly, the friend who accompanied Nhan on that university visit in 2022 is now also a student in class 22YK1. From two high school students exploring a learning environment, they have become classmates pursuing the same dream.

From what seemed like an ordinary campus visit, Nhan found the path she truly wanted to follow. Four years later, she continues that journey every day in lecture halls and hospitals as she works toward becoming a doctor.
