From August 18–20, 2025, Phan Chau Trinh University of Medicine (PCTU) organized the 3rd Medical Student Residency Examination with the participation of more than 20 final-year medical students. This was not only an important academic assessment evaluating knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes but also a gateway to exclusive residency training opportunities for outstanding students.
The exam consisted of two parts: Theory and Clinical. In the Theory round (August 18), candidates completed multiple-choice tests covering major disciplines (Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics), depending on their chosen field. On August 19–20, students entered the Clinical round at the University’s Pre-clinical Simulation Hospital — the first of its kind in Vietnam, equipped with over 70 advanced functional rooms.

During the Clinical exam, each student had to manage real-life scenarios with simulated or standardized patients, including: taking medical history – patient communication – basic clinical examination by specialty – analyzing paraclinical results (laboratory tests, imaging, ECG, etc.) – providing diagnosis and treatment plans – performing essential procedures – writing medical records – and completing an oral examination.

The judging panel gave highly positive feedback on the candidates’ competencies, skills, and professional attitudes. Outstanding students who passed the exam not only received scholarships covering 30–60% of their final-year tuition fees but also gained extended opportunities to interact with patients and accumulate practical experience.
Since 2023, PCTU has pioneered the Medical Student Residency Program with entrance exams and financial support policies, enabling final-year students to experience the residency environment early, enhance expertise, and develop hands-on skills. After two years, the program has shown clear effectiveness, with the majority of graduates achieving Excellent results, affirming the University’s quality training and innovative approach.
The 2025 examination further reaffirms PCTU’s strong foundation in practice-oriented education while opening pathways for in-depth professional development, giving students a competitive edge before entering medical practice.
