At Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU), medical students are trained not only within the university’s hospital system but also through clinical rotations at external healthcare facilities. This training model strengthens their medical expertise, enhances communication skills and clinical reasoning, and fosters professional attitudes and strong medical ethics.
At PCTU, clinical practice makes up 70% of the training program, with diverse internship locations ranging from hospitals within the university system to affiliated medical facilities. From the very first year, students are exposed to real-world clinical environments at Phan Chau Trinh Medical University Hospital and a network of eight Tam Tri General Hospitals spanning Da Nang, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Dong Thap. These hospitals offer over 1,500 inpatient beds and are staffed by hundreds of highly qualified Clinical Instructors (CIs). Throughout the program, students also undertake external clinical rotations at hospitals outside the Hospital–University system.

Recently, a group of 34 students from class 20YK1 have completed and are continuing their clinical rotations at various off-campus hospitals, including Quang Nam Psychiatric Hospital, Da Nang CDC, Quang Nam General Hospital, Da Nang Lung Hospital, and currently, Da Nang Traditional Medicine Hospital. Through these rotations, students gained hands-on experience with diseases such as tuberculosis, mental health conditions, oncology, and traditional medicine. They also developed a professional, non-discriminatory attitude when communicating with patients—especially those with infectious diseases.
These external internships not only equip students with diagnostic and medical record-keeping skills but also cultivate essential soft skills like teamwork, case presentations, clinical debates, and adaptability across diverse healthcare environments. Most importantly, they help shape a comprehensive medical mindset that embraces physical, psychological, and socio-cultural dimensions of patient care.

The University’s distinctive Hospital – University model, combined with its multi-site clinical internship system, has become a bright spot in medical training. Through diverse clinical rotations, students experience accelerated development in medical knowledge, clinical thinking, and professional character.
By offering rich, hands-on exposure across both internal and affiliated hospitals, this model prepares future physicians to become well-rounded professionals—proficient in medical science, compassionate in care, and committed to serving with both skill and heart.
