For many years, international students have chosen the Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU) Institute-School model as the place to study and hone their clinical skills in medicine.
According to information from the university, in July 2024, PCTU welcomed 9 international students from the USA, Hungary, Poland, and France to participate in the clinical internship program at its Institute-School system. These students will intern in the specialties they registered for under the guidance of PCTU’s professors and doctors.
Previously, in 2022 and 2023, the university also welcomed medical students from the University of Manchester (UK) and the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical University (Hungary) for clinical internships.
Furthermore, in September 2024, the university is expected to welcome around 60 students from India and Myanmar. These students will enroll in a 6-year English-taught General Medicine program.

Although still a young institution in health education, PCTU has adopted a liberal education philosophy, offering students hands-on experience in hospitals from the very first day. The university has heavily invested in infrastructure, its network of training hospitals, and modern facilities, creating strong confidence for both domestic and international learners. Notably, the pre-clinical skill simulation hospital is continuously upgraded, with increasingly modern equipment integrated with information technology. This helps students practice all clinical skills, from basic cases to rare ones, in highly realistic simulated environments.
Isela Vasquez, a student from Northeastern University (USA), shared during her internship: "I found this program through Volunteering Journeys. I came here because I really wanted to gain experience in a global program. So far, I have really enjoyed the experience here, the people, and the teaching I've received from this program. It has really been beneficial for me."
Strengthening International Exchange and Collaboration
To achieve these initial successes, PCTU has focused on enhancing international relations in recent years. The university has collaborated with many prestigious universities and organizations worldwide, opening up opportunities for international students to study here, as well as for PCTU students to participate in exchange and study programs abroad.
Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Hương, Director of the International Research and Cooperation Center, stated: "With the mission of exposing PCTU health students to advanced medical practices worldwide, the university has strengthened its partnerships with numerous international organizations and renowned universities, focusing on research, international student exchange programs, and training."
PCTU has worked with organizations such as AMOpportunities (USA), Global Engagement Institute (USA), Healing Hearts Vietnam (USA), Project Outreach International Child Health (Canada), HECAF360, and universities like Mahidol University (Thailand), Taipei University (Taiwan), University of Sydney (Australia), Griffith University (Australia), Ludwig Maximilians University (Germany), Ohio State University (USA), and Michigan State University (USA). Notably, research results from collaboration with Griffith University were presented by Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Hương and colleagues at the International Global Health Security Conference held in Sydney, Australia, in June 2024.
PCTU students have many opportunities to learn, expand their networks, and integrate into the global community. In July 2024, two medical students, Phan Văn Bảo Long and Nguyễn Thị Minh Trang, were awarded full scholarships for a summer internship program at Alberta Children's Hospital (Canada), sponsored by Project Outreach International Child Health. Earlier, medical student Hà Nguyễn Phương Duyên also received a scholarship from Taipei University for the two-month TEEP (Taiwan Experience Education Program) internship in Taiwan.

Furthermore, PCTU students have shown their resilience, dynamism, and liberal spirit by joining global student networks such as IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students' Associations) in 2022. To date, PCTU has sent representatives to the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (APRM-IFMSA), held in the Philippines (2023) and Thailand (2024), along with a few other domestic medical schools.
The successes in attracting international students and collaborating with prestigious global institutions and organizations are a testament to PCTU's educational quality and strategic vision. With its ongoing efforts, Phan Chau Trinh University continues to assert its position as one of the leading medical training institutions, delivering lasting value to the community and society.
