Continue training faculty members of the Institute–University on simulation-based teaching methods

On August 20–21, the Preclinical Skills Simulation Hospital of Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU) organized the second Clinical Simulation Training Course for faculty members of the Institute–University.

If students learn skills through simulation to practice before entering the clinical environment, simulation-based teaching training courses for faculty focus on the following question:
How can a simulation session truly help students learn and develop clinical skills?
Simulation is not simply about bringing students into a practice room, using mannequins, and performing a technique. The effectiveness of a learning session depends greatly on how faculty design the scenario, organize learning activities, and facilitate learners throughout the process.

During the two-day training course, PCTU faculty members were guided and given hands-on practice in designing and delivering a simulation-based learning session, with a focus on the following areas:
-    Developing skill-based scenarios or clinical situations aligned with learning objectives.
-    Conducting Briefing – providing orientation, assigning tasks, and preparing students before they enter the simulation scenario.
-    Facilitating simulation practice sessions and creating an environment in which students can actively perform skills and manage clinical situations.
-    Conducting Debriefing – reflecting on the practice process, analyzing decisions, identifying areas for improvement, and drawing lessons learned.
-    Practicing the complete process so that faculty members can independently design and deliver effective simulation-based learning sessions for students.

The ultimate goal of the training course is not simply for faculty members to “know how to use mannequins,” but to understand how to use simulation as an effective teaching tool.
From developing a scenario and organizing student practice to observing skill performance and providing feedback after the session, every step is aimed at helping students become more active learners, gain more opportunities for practice, and develop competence before working with real patients.

This is also part of PCTU’s ongoing efforts to enhance faculty capacity and progressively standardize simulation-based teaching methods in preclinical skills education, thereby contributing to improving the quality of healthcare workforce training.
