PCTU students are now eligible to take the USMLE and practice medicine in the U.S

Located about 10 kilometers from the center of Da Nang City, Phan Chau Trinh University is emerging as a leading medical education institution on the global map. In November 2024, Phan Chau Trinh University was officially approved by the U.S. ECFMG organization, marking a significant milestone that enables its medical students to take the USMLE and practice as doctors in the United States.

2024 - A Year of Remarkable Achievements

Over the past year, PCTU has proudly represented Vietnam as the sole participant at the International Medical Student Conference in Finland, which brought together representatives from 100 countries worldwide. At the conference, PCTU students made a strong impression with outstanding presentations and successfully established six clinical exchange agreements with universities from six different countries. Bao Long and Thuy Lan, two medical students, attended the Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM – IFMSA) in Thailand. Additionally, two other medical students were accepted for clinical internships at Alberta Hospital, Canada. These achievements truly reflect the liberal education philosophy that the university pursues.

Currently, Phan Chau Trinh University offers six academic programs: General Medicine, Dentistry, General Nursing, Dental Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Hospital Management. In 2024, the university welcomed more than 200 new students, including 60 international medical students from Myanmar and India. The university also held its first graduation ceremony for 38 newly graduated doctors and medical laboratory bachelors, marking an important milestone in its journey to train high-quality healthcare professionals.

Innovation and quality enhancement in education remain top priorities for the University Council. The academic year 2024-2025 marks the first implementation of a reformed medical education program, accredited by experts from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City and the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Hue. This educational program is currently being adopted by many leading universities domestically and internationally. To support this reform, the university has conducted numerous faculty training and development programs. Furthermore, the university has established the Deep Medicine Unit (DMU), pioneering AI applications in education.

Alongside academic activities, extracurricular activities are also well-implemented to help students develop essential skills, socialize, exchange cultures across nations, and maintain their health. Among the 20+ organized activities, some stand out with significant student participation, such as the Mid-Autumn Charity Program, Blood Donation Campaign, Student Sports Festival, and the Eukaryotic Biology and Human Health Book Writing Competition, which attracted over 70 authors.

Scientific research and international cooperation have continued to achieve remarkable results. For the first time, the Institute-University Scientific Conference was held on a large scale, attracting participation from numerous domestic universities. Research findings were presented at major conferences in Australia in June and October. The university approved and completed 13 school-level scientific research projects. Additionally, 13 international students participated in clinical internships at the Institute-University, tripling last year's number. These students came from the United States, Poland, Hungary, Austria, and Japan. The university also welcomed and collaborated with major global organizations and universities, such as Volunteering Journey, AMOpportunities (USA), JICWELS (Japan), Mahidol University (Thailand), and Seoul National University (South Korea).

In addition to upgrading and putting into operation the Preclinical Skills Simulation Hospital this year, the university has completed the construction of key facilities within its overall campus master plan, expected to be operational in early 2025. Notably, the Phan Chau Trinh University Medical Hospital, with a capacity of 300 beds, offers comprehensive specialties and is equipped with modern technology, integrating AI applications to support diagnosis and treatment. The Apollo Biomedical Research Center and Medical Museum, with unique architecture combining AI and automated management systems, aim to provide an interactive experience.

The year 2024 concludes with proud achievements, all thanks to the dedication and efforts of the University Council, the Board of Directors, faculty members, staff, and the invaluable support from domestic and international partners.
