More than half a lifetime has passed, and the veteran carried that shrapnel fragment as if carrying a remaining piece of the war still left inside his body.

Recently, Phan Chau Trinh University of Medicine Hospital received a nearly 90-year-old veteran suffering from prolonged dull pain in the neck area. After examination, doctors discovered that a bullet fragment from the resistance war against the United States had remained inside the veteran’s body, silently existing there for more than 60 years.
More than half a lifetime has passed, and the old soldier carried that fragment as if carrying a remaining piece of the war still left inside his body.
It had lain there silently through many years.
Until recently, the pain returned like a quiet reminder of the bombing years, of the time when the youth of an entire generation was left behind on the battlefield.
The surgery did not last long.
The moment the small shrapnel fragment was removed from his body, the entire surgical team fell silent. Because it was not merely a piece of metal, but the youth of a soldier, blood, loss, and the years that an entire generation endured in exchange for the peace our country enjoys today.
We grew up in peaceful days, yet there are people who carried the war within their bodies for more than 60 years to preserve something that now seems so ordinary.
