Maccabee Ceremony - Grateful for immortal flowers

On the afternoon of February 15, 2020, Phan Chau Trinh University will organize the program: "Maccabee Ceremony - Gratitude to Immortal Flowers". The ceremony aims to continue the unique culture of deeply human nature to honor and express gratitude to those who have volunteered to dedicate their bodies to Medicine and Science.

Right from the ancient medieval times, the living expressed regret, fondness and wished the deceased through rituals, worship, and art. People have painted, carved pictures depicting the dances of the dead in the underworld.

By the time of the renaissance, when the major of anatomy was developed and became an important subject, corpse anatomy became compulsory and popular in the Medical Universities. Anatomists and medical students have the initiative to turn the spirit of gratitude into a dance of thanksgiving for those who have devoted themselves to science at Christmas every year. The Macchabée Festival was born from there.

Macchabée is a unique cultural icon, popular in Western countries, demonstrating diversity in rituals and visual arts. The festival is deeply human, expressing the grief and blessings of the living for the deceased, thereby sending the desire for happiness and equality to all.
