In addition to demanding classes and exams, medical students at Phan Chau Trinh University also participate in night shifts. What benefits do these night shifts bring to them, and when do they start participating?
Night shifts are a fascinating and indispensable journey for medical students. Through each night shift, students not only have the opportunity to play the role of a caregiver, monitor and assess cases throughout the night, but also receive training on how to handle situations flexibly when faced with unusual circumstances. If they are on duty in the emergency department, they will be trained in quick responses to every emergency situation that arises during the night. Moreover, students also experience special emotions when saving a life, meaning they can experience the joy of success and the sadness when unable to preserve a patient's life.
Typically, medical students begin to experience night shifts in their third year of the program. However, at Phan Chau Trinh University, medical students are placed in a hospital environment from the first year, with a frequency of once a month, gradually increasing over time. This is facilitated by the presence of a dedicated hospital system within the university. They have access to medical records for research purposes, as well as other hospital resources to help them improve their professional skills.
Particularly, in the early morning the next day, all students participating in night shifts at various hospitals will conduct an online debriefing session led by Dr. CKII Le Xuan Tuy - the professional director of the Group. Students will report on any unusual situations or emergency cases, sharing their approaches to provide an opportunity for discussion and mutual learning. Through this, everyone has the chance to learn and improve their professional skills together.
With such an educational foundation, it is certain that students benefit greatly. We expect that they will seize every opportunity to develop and equip themselves with skills and knowledge, thereby enhancing their work capabilities.
