Clinical Psychology: One Field of Study, One Professional Title

A field of study that may sound “new” and “hard to imagine,” leaving many people wondering: “Where can you work after graduation?”
 

This is a very real concern for many parents when they hear their children want to pursue this field.

But in reality today, as society becomes increasingly concerned about mental health, the demand for clinical psychology professionals is clearly growing in:

• — hospitals and healthcare facilities

• — counseling and psychological therapy centers

• — schools and educational organizations

• — businesses and human care services

• — community organizations or advanced psychology research fields…

Meanwhile, Vietnam is currently lacking a well-trained workforce in clinical psychology that is oriented toward healthcare and mental health services. Previously, many training programs mainly focused on general psychology foundations, while professionals capable of integrating psychological knowledge, counseling skills, and practical clinical understanding remain limited.

Notably, on January 9, 2023, the National Assembly promulgated the 2023 Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, in which Clinical Psychology was officially recognized as a professional title within the healthcare system. This demonstrates that mental health is increasingly being acknowledged for its important role and is gaining a clearer legal framework within Vietnam’s healthcare system.
