According to TASS news agency, President Vladimir Putin opened his government meeting on August 11 with a much-awaited announcement: Russia had registered the world's first COVID-19 vaccine.
"As far as I know, this morning, for the first time in the world a registered COVID-19 vaccine.
I know the vaccine works well enough, creates a stable immunity, and the repeated vaccines have passed all stages of testing, "Mr. Putin said proudly.
Next, the Russian leader asked Health Minister Mikhail Murashko to provide more details on the new invention to government members.
Previously, Minister Murashko announced that the vaccine developed by the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology Gamaleya of Russia had completed all stages of clinical trials.
President Putin said he hopes that more and more COVID-19 vaccines will appear in the world over time, and Russia will start mass production of vaccines domestically as soon as possible.
President Putin also announced that one of his daughters had received a new vaccine and was feeling well. According to him, after the first injection, his daughter's temperature rose to 38 degrees Celsius, and the next day it dropped to more than 37 degrees Celsius.
"Just that, after the second injection, the body temperature just increased a little. Everything is fine, my baby is fine, the antibody level in the blood is high," Putin described.
