In the past 2 days, all students in Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh and students in some schools in Hanoi had to drop out of school due to the presence of COVID-19 infections in the community. Online learning scenarios are being activated by schools, from high school to university.
When the social gap of 2020, unpredictable but no other way, 1.4 million teachers - including me - and 24 million students, students forced to use online platforms to teach and learn.
"Number gap"
As a person who has studied abroad for many years and often works online with foreign partners, I am not surprised by using free software to teach.
However, in the early days, I could not avoid being confused about how to organize and manage online classes effectively.
Meeting a few people online is easy, but my class has hundreds of students. I realize the free platform only solves the "no connection" thing.
The COVID-19 pandemic brutally exposed the gap between the "digital" and "the" nonexistent ", between countries with good technological infrastructure, especially in the education sector, and countries not yet ready.
My best friend, also a lecturer at a university, called: "On the first day I was still struggling because I did not know how to share my screen with students. Both teachers and students were almost not. Collect and say a lot in the beginning. Many operations on platforms are students teach themselves ".
Education is probably the fastest technology transformation industry in the past year. While my friends in many schools were still fighting, organizing their own classes through free platforms, my school very quickly had its own e-learning platform.
The university I teach is one of the few public universities that has created an online teaching platform, instead of using freely available software and applications. Organizing and managing the classroom as you like, storing lectures and self-study materials for students has less of the burden on me.
After a short time, both teachers and students learn to get acquainted, and as a result, more than 8,000 students of our school have been learning online on the right foundation. Although this is a temporary solution and still has a few shortcomings, it partly solves the uninterrupted learning and teaching of teachers and students.
To not be a temporary story
COVID paused, our teachers and students returned to the lecture hall. The other cornerstone story is still mentioned in many of our meetings. Many teachers who are familiar with online teaching suggest that part of the subject should continue to be taught online, but for those who have been too hard, and become a barrier compared to the traditional teaching method, only want to forget this story, like a nightmare.
Of course, not all schools invest in their own platforms, many schools in Vietnam, as mentioned above, have to use free platforms such as Google Class, Office365, Moodle ... I even witnessed the Elementary and middle school teachers struggled to use Zoom, the free software that would only be limited to a few dozen minutes of free use. All data and chat content of teachers and students will disappear when the free time expires. Teachers and students have to use a lot of platforms to organize classes, exchange and store learning materials.
We remember the Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communication) issued an official letter warning that online learning software Zoom risk of information insecurity. Data storage, information security and infrastructure are both a problem for many schools in general in Vietnam.
True digitalization of lecture halls, and strengthening of information and communication capacity for the future population is a top priority in the national digital transformation program. Technological foundations and infrastructures are important, but personalization and building the appropriate foundation for each school and education level is essential.
Hopefully this is not only a story that will be quickly forgotten, long-term pregnancy, when the worm cannot quickly transform into a butterfly.
The year 2021 remains uncertain with COVID-19, but what we can do to catch the uncertainties is to proactively build an educational digitalization infrastructure.
Global population but very ... Vietnamese
The future of education is exciting and frightening. The best way to forecast the future is to create it. New standards of life and skills are being formed. We must prepare to embrace new modes of learning and technology towards the "product" of digital education, that is, a comprehensive person, a global but very Vietnamese citizen.
Need outstanding foundation
At the time of social gap in 2020, our teachers and students will be supported for free UPM platform, a platform that is truly superior to other online learning applications, especially in the ability to interact and manage. class, data storage, multimedia teaching support, attendance, exchange ...
I think m is only missing the only lack of automatic plagiarism test is the exact same as the background for online learning and student management of UK and US universities.
