NEW VIRUS: WHAT WE KNOW

NEW VIRUS: WHAT WE KNOW

More than 100 people have died from the Corona Virus. The number of people infected in China surged in one day - from 2,700 on Monday to more than 4,500 on Tuesday. The increase is strong even when China has taken strong measures to prevent the spread of this disease.

What is Coronavirus?

The corona virus is a large family of viruses that cause disease in mammals and birds. The coronavirus can cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to much more serious illnesses like Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

Experts still do not have a clear picture of the severity of the new coronavirus.

What is new Coronavirus?

Officials are calling the disease a Muslim "novel" or the new coronavirus because it has not been previously found in humans.

The newly identified virus is believed to have been transmitted to humans from wild animals sold at a market in Wuhan, central Zhonghu Province. But it is spreading among people.

Chinese officials say the disease can be spread from person to person even before any realistic signs appear. This makes it even more difficult to control.

What are the signs of the new coronavirus?

Signs of sick patients include fever, cough, difficulty breathing and breathing difficulties ... In more severe cases, the virus can cause pneumonia.

Some reported little or no signs, while others were seriously ill or even died.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that signs of the virus can appear two to 14 days after being around an infected person.

Treatment and prevention

0302There is currently no special treatment for this new virus. However, many of its effects are treatable, provided the patient is in good health.
Because the virus is so new in humans, there is no vaccine available to protect against the disease. But the World Health Organization advises people to avoid close contact with anyone with signs of a respiratory illness, such as coughing or sneezing. Everyone should wash their hands often and eat and drink safely.
The US Centers for Disease Control also publishes preventive tips. They say wash hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water; avoid touching your face with unwashed hands; stay home when you are sick; and cleaning frequently touched objects and surfaces.
