Information Concerning CoronavirusAll Campus Operations Normal

January 31, 2020

We understand the growing concern regarding the coronavirus now impacting the United States. We continue to closely monitor the national and local situations in coordination with the Orange County Health Care Agency Public Health Services(OCHCA) as this continues to evolve. Please note the following:

  • Campus Operations are normal. We have no reported cases of coronavirus at Chapman University.
  • According to OCHCA, Orange County has a low risk of infection.
  • There remains only one known infection in Orange County and that individual traveled from China and is not believed to have spread the virus to anyone.
  • There are no travel restrictions for those traveling within the United States, therefore students should return to campus as planned for the start of classes.

Additionally:

  • U.S. State Department has issued a “no travel warning” to China.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns travelers to avoid all “non-essential” travel to China.

What Should I Do If I’ve Been Exposed to Coronavirus?

If you have recently been to Wuhan, China and have developed fever with cough or shortness of breath within 14 days of your travel or have had contact with someone who is suspected to have novel coronavirus stay home (if you live in Chapman housing, try to limit your exposure to others) and call your health care provider immediately. If you do not have a healthcare provider or if you need to be seen at a hospital, do not go directly to the hospital. Please call the emergency room to get instructions before going in.

  • Students should contact the Health Center at 714-997-6851
  • Employees should contact their primary care physician

For more information about how to protect yourself from 2019-nCoV, review this fact sheet based on information from the CDC.
