PhanMed : The network of Phan Chau Trinh  University Medical Students

History of Formation

PhanMed is a student network comprising individuals from various health science disciplines under Phan Chau Trinh University. It serves as the official representative body for the university’s medical students and is recognized as a member of the National Member Organization (NMO) within the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA). PhanMed was provisionally established in December 2022 through a collaboration between NOHS and the Center for Research and International Cooperation (CRIC). It is led by the Regional Chair, who also serves on the Board of Directors of NOHS Vietnam.

Vision

PhanMed aims to become one of the most dynamic, sustainable, and well-connected networks of medical students in Vietnam by fostering strong collaborations with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, research centers, and universities both nationally and internationally.

Mission

PhanMed strives to enhance the awareness, capacity, and advocacy of medical students in Vietnam by providing opportunities for learning, hands-on experiences, and deeper understanding of social, cultural, and global health issues — with a strong focus on meaningful contributions to their surrounding communities.

PhanMed’s Goals:

1. To establish a cohesive and connected network among health science students in Vietnam, representing and empowering their voices and actions on healthcare and medical education issues both nationally and internationally.

2. To equip health science students with professional knowledge and essential soft skills, including interdisciplinary collaboration skills beyond the classroom curriculum, in preparation for their future careers.

3. To foster scientific research capacity and knowledge among health science students in Vietnam.

4.To focus on developing leadership skills in healthcare among students.

5.To promote international exchange and cooperation, representing Vietnamese health science students in global forums and related activities.

Key Activities

Standing Committee on Professional Exchange – under the Phan Chau Trinh University Medical Student Network (SCOPE PhanMed)

The Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE) is a specialized unit under PhanMed – the Medical Student Network of Phan Chau Trinh University. It operates in accordance with the official standards of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA).

SCOPE was established in April 2024 with the goal of promoting international clinical internship opportunities for students in the health sciences. Through SCOPE, students can participate in professional exchange programs in over 100 IFMSA member countries, gaining first-hand experience in international clinical environments, while expanding their perspectives and enhancing their professional competence, language proficiency, and intercultural communication skills.

The establishment and development of SCOPE at PhanMed is not only a testament to Phan Chau Trinh students’ capacity for global integration, but also a significant milestone in the university’s journey toward the internationalization of medical education.

From a group of passionate students with the aspiration to reach beyond borders, PhanMed has gradually established its presence both nationally and internationally. Beyond the classroom, our journey extends to regional medical forums, new horizons, and compassionate bridges built within communities.

On the international stage, PhanMed is proud to represent Vietnam at the Asia-Pacific Regional Meetings (APRM) in 2023 in the Philippines and in 2024 in Thailand — where students across the region come together to share innovative solutions for the future of healthcare.

Notably, PhanMed made its mark at the IFMSA August Meeting (General Assembly) in Finland, gathering medical students from over 130 countries — where the voice of Phan Chau Trinh students resonated in harmony with the heartbeat of the global community.

Within Vietnam, PhanMed continues to expand its presence in both academic and social communities. It is the only member organization in Central Vietnam to participate in the N.G.A National Assembly, held at VinUniversity in 2023 and Hong Bang International University in 2024.

Numerous community projects have been successfully implemented, such as “The Land of Teen Magic” – a sexual health education program at the Hope School in Da Nang, free bread distribution for underprivileged people, and two blood donation drives that attracted enthusiastic participation from students.

In addition, PhanMed has demonstrated strong academic spirit through active participation in the scientific research proposal competition organized by Phan Chau Trinh University, proudly earning several notable awards. These achievements reflect not only the group's serious investment in academic excellence, but also the members’ unwavering commitment to continuous learning.

In addition to academic and community initiatives, PhanMed places great emphasis on creating a friendly and connected environment among its members. After each program, students often gather to eat, talk, and share stories about their studies and everyday life.

It is through these simple, genuine interactions that a supportive and close-knit community has been built — one that encourages mutual growth and a strong sense of companionship throughout medical school. PhanMed is not only a place for learning and contribution, but also a space for connection, personal growth, and unforgettable experiences during the journey of becoming a doctor.

Every step PhanMed takes is a journey where students learn, contribute, and grow — carrying with them the dream of a new generation of healthcare professionals who are not only clinically competent but also deeply humanistic.

Organizational Structure

With over 30 members across three generations from both Vietnam and abroad, representing fields such as General Medicine, Dentistry, and Medical Laboratory Science, PhanMed brings together a diverse and dynamic student community.

PhanMed operates under a streamlined leadership structure, consisting of the core PhanMed body and the Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE). Additionally, permanent committees are organized following the IFMSA model, with SCOPE being the first to be established and already functioning effectively. Other committees will be gradually launched in the near future.

Membership Recruitment Information

PhanMed recruits new members once a year, around September–October. The recruitment is open to all students currently enrolled in any program at Phan Chau Trinh University.
