Foods that help prevent breast cancer

Nutritionist Ginger Muscalli from Johns Hopskins University says there are many good foods to help reduce the risk of breast tumors.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the world, with 2.3 million people diagnosed by 2020, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

In Vietnam, more than 15,000 people are diagnosed with cancer each year, of which over 9% are breast cancers, according to GLOBOCAN statistics, in 2018. It is estimated that by 2030, the number of new breast cancers discovered to 20,000 , the trend continues to increase.

Although pathogens such as genetics are hard to avoid, Muscalli believes that a healthy diet will help reduce the risk of breast cancer. Here are some good foods from Muscalli:

Onion

Onions are high in vitamin C and antioxidants that help keep breast tissue healthy. In a report published in the US National Biotechnology Information Center (NCBI), Dr. Gauri Desai's team from the University of Buffalo found lower rates of breast cancer among Puerto Rican women than in the United States. .

Puerto Rican people consume a lot of garlic onions, as they are an indispensable ingredient in the traditional sofrito sauce. Digging deeper into this dish, the team found that eating sofrito more than once a day reduced the risk of cancer by 67%. The theory is that this is the effect of flavonoids and organosulfur compounds in garlic onion.

Green tea

Green tea contains catechins with antioxidant properties. For each person, green tea has different effects. Some people who are not used to drinking will feel restless and uncomfortable. Try to drink gradually and increase the amount of tea if possible, maybe one cup at dinner or lunch and raise to two cups per day.

Arugula and kale

All green vegetables are healthy, but these two representatives of this cruciferous family are particularly beneficial. Arugula and kale are excellent sources of fiber and carotenoids, helping to reduce the risk of trio-negative breast cancer (the rarest and most difficult-to-treat form of breast cancer).

Fish

Fish may prevent breast cancer due to its high selenium and omega-3 content. Fish you should eat include salmon, mackerel, sardines, herring, and tuna.

Vegetables are light in color

Colorful vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts are rich in carotenoids and antioxidants, which aid in breast cancer prevention.

Yogurt

Fermented foods like yogurt provide beneficial bacteria for the gut and immune system. Probiotics help the body to function normally and to detoxify. Many people with breast cancer also get colon cancer due to the influence of eating habits.

Barley, oats

Although more research is needed on the benefits of these two foods, it's known that whole grains are a source of beneficial insoluble fiber, containing breast-healthy compounds like phenolic acids and anthocyanins.

The fruit is hard

Walnuts or peanuts are high in phytosterols. Some cancer cells grow on estrogen. To prevent this, phytosterols can bind to the cell's estrogen receptors and help regulate estrogen levels.

fruit

Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and grapefruit are good sources of vitamin C, vitamin B9, and antibiotics that help boost immunity and fight inflammation. But other fruits like pears, apples, peaches, grapes, and bananas provide potassium and vitamin C - two important nutrients to keep your body healthy.

Herbs and spices

Spices such as turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and basil have anti-inflammatory properties. Certain spices have the ability to prevent cancer, but this needs to be studied more. The combination of these ingredients does not affect healthy breast tissue and may inhibit the formation of free radicals.
