Accepted the invitation of Dr.. Nguyen Huu Tung - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Phan Chau Trinh University, on June 18, 2018, Professor Nguyen Van Tuan - University of New South Wales (Australia), a medical science specializing in epidemiology and genetics of osteoporosis A visit to the Faculty of Medicine of Phan Chau Trinh University to prepare for the teaching plan for the school's medical students in September 2018.
Although this is the first year the School enrolls and trains General Practitioners, the University has invested and prepared carefully from the training program, the teaching staff are reputable teachers in the medical field. at home and abroad to study and practice environments with updated equipment. It is this that can meet the goal of building a training school to create a generation of standard doctors, qualified with expertise and capable of scientific research, meeting an integrated working environment. That is also the enthusiasm and desire of Dr.. Nguyen Huu Tung, with more than 20 years operating two large private medical groups in Vietnam (which is Hoan My Medical Group and Tam Tri Medical Group).
In addition to Professor Nguyen Van Tuan who will be a lecturer and advisor to PCTU's Faculty of Medicine, the school is honored to receive professional support from professors from the US (see more here or here).
On this tour, Gs. Nguyen Van Tuan has some profound feelings, we would like to quote the text as follows:
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit Phan Chau Trinh University in Da Nang. In fact, in Dien Ngoc, close to the new university urban area, it included the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Danang, FPT and a Vietnamese-Korean university (or college). After a few "fluctuations", Phan Chau Trinh University is now a private university and mainly a medical university. The person behind the school is a renowned doctor in the private health sector, or a "mover and shaker" who is known in English by everyone: Dr. Nguyen Huu Tung.
At this time, Dien Ngoc campus is still a construction, brick and stone sprawl. However, by the end of this month, this place will be a rather spacious and of course brand new building. And, it is very special because I was one of the first visitors to witness the birth of a "new player" in Vietnamese medical education.
It is "New kid on the block" happily speaking English in English. But this "new kid" is not a trivial type, but on the contrary, there are many things that other places must pay attention to and sometimes learn. As far as I know, the school will use the curriculum of UCSF (USA) and this is a great sign. I had the opportunity to talk to many friends from the University of Danang and saw that everyone considered the appearance of PCU as a positive development. There was absolutely no signal of competition or envy. I think instead of competing, we should work together to do better.
One of the collaboration models that I think of is faculty sharing, curriculum, and scientific research facilities. In the near future, we will implement a program (3 subjects) for 3rd, 4th, and 5th year students in English. I think the students from PCU can go to Danang to study ... for fun. Just joking, because learning is real learning, not learning for it.
Every beginning is humble and difficult. This September, the PEU will receive the first batch of medical students, apparently 50. This group of students hopes to play the role of "birth" or "game changer" as 60 students of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales 60-70 years ago.
