Training in Preclinical Skills with Canadian Experts

From September 29 to October 4, 2024, the clinical faculty at Phan Chau Trinh University (PCTU) participated in an advanced training program focused on clinical teaching methods using simulation-based learning. The program was conducted under the guidance of renowned experts from the Alberta Children's Hospital, Canada.

The experts delivered engaging lectures, skillfully blending theoretical knowledge, teamwork exercises, and hands-on simulation practice at PCTU’s state-of-the-art simulation hospital. Through this training, PCTU physicians and lecturers not only acquired updated teaching techniques but also learned how to effectively implement active teaching strategies using simulation. This approach enhances their instructional capabilities, allowing students to develop a more comprehensive and practical skill set for clinical scenarios.

Simulation-based teaching is an innovative educational method in the medical field. PCTU has made substantial investments in this area, establishing a five-story simulation hospital with over 50 practice rooms, at a total investment exceeding 5 million USD. These practice rooms are equipped to replicate the functional units of real hospitals, complete with fully operational medical equipment. The simulated patients in these facilities can authentically mimic clinical conditions, enabling students to practice and refine their skills in a realistic, risk-free environment.
