Diabetic retinopathy is a major cause of blindness in India; early screening and treatment can help save sight.

In 2018, Aravind Eye Hospitals teamed up with Google and Verily Life Sciences to use an automated retinal disease assessment algorithm for screening. This system has screened over 600,000 patients, including those in remote areas.
