Is a FODMAP diet effective for the treatment of IBS?

A network meta-analysis of the literature concluded that a low fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols (FODMAP) diet is the most likely to be effective for patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) compared with other diets. A low FODMAP diet removes offending foods from the diet for four to six weeks, followed by a gradual and systematic reintroduction of foods to identify those that the patient can tolerate. Read the full article.

How is asthma diagnosed using spirometry?

To diagnose asthma, pre- and postbronchodilator spirometry must show obstruction with forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) reversibility (greater than 12% and greater than 200 mL) with administration of bronchodilators or through the observation of bronchoconstriction (reduction in FEV1 of at least 20%) with a methacholine challenge. Read the full article.
