The world's first doctor and oath to Hippocrates

Hipocrates is the ancestor of Western medicine, the creator of the Hippocrates oath that medical students must read when preparing to graduate.

According to Biography, Dr. Hippocrates was born on the Greek island of Aegean around the middle of the 5th century BC. He is considered the first doctor of modern medicine. In this era, medicine was still associated with religion and illness, cured with mysterious supernatural phenomena. However, Hippocrates rejected these notions and became the first to view medicine as a science.

Hippocrates argued that every disease has its own natural cause. The collection of works presented by Hippocrates is a rudimentary understanding of how the body works and the nature of disease. His legacy is the Hippocratic oath, derived from the morality and standards he set, a moral guide for doctors today. Many of the things in his book are true today.

Hippocrates Asclepiades is considered the first doctor of modern medicine.

His full name is Hippocrates Asclepiades, which means "god doctor Asclepios". Around 400 BC, he founded a medical school, with his disciples devised a scientific method to examine and treat patients. The physician must directly examine the patient and find the disease through the manifest symptoms, must pick up the prescription and then monitor to see if the treatment is effective or not. At this point many medicinal methods of Hippocrates were developed. Historians believe that Hippocrates traveled across continental Greece and possibly Libya and Egypt as well, to practice medicine.

To date, much of what is known about the method of medicine comes from a collection of more than 60 Hippus Corpus medical books, considered to be the oldest works of medicine. The collection was compiled 100 years after his death. Historians believe that the material will be of help to physicians in the practice of medicine throughout later life.

Hippocrates' writings state the view that "healthy diet and physical exercise are an effective remedy for most illnesses". Hippocrates pointed out how to locate joints, the importance of keeping a record of history and treatment, the relationship between weather and certain diseases. Doctors at that time only observed the patient, based on what could be seen or felt outside. They also do experiments on animals to compare with humans, but absolutely no experiments on humans are lost.

"The Hippocrates Oath" is a familiar document of medical and ethical practice. Initially, Hippocrates was noted with an oath. Later, newer studies showed that it was practiced by doctors of the next generation after his death.

Some Hippocrastes' documents to date are no longer suitable to apply to modern medicine, but still exist as the foundation for which medical graduates take an oath at the beginning of their careers. Some of the basic tenets of the oath include the practice of medicine to the best of one's ability, sharing knowledge with other doctors, a compassionate attitude, compassion, respect for patient privacy. and help prevent disease whenever possible.

To this day, Hippocrates' death or his age remains a mystery, only knowing that he was the doctor who made great contributions to medicine and set a standard of ethical practice.

Original Hippocrates oath:

“I swear to Apollo, god of healing, Asclepius, Hygieia and Panacea, and I testify to all the gods and goddesses, I hold, according to my ability and judgment, the following oath :

Dear, as my parents, who taught me this subject; live peacefully with the teacher and, if necessary, share property with him; take care of their children like my brothers and sisters and teach them this subject.

I will prescribe for the benefit of the patient, according to my ability and assessment and never harm anyone.

I never give killer drugs to anyone who asks me and would not advise such a scheme. I will not give any woman an abortion tool.

But I will keep pure for my life and for my profession.

I will not undergo surgery to remove stones, even for patients who appear to have this condition. I will dedicate surgery to these doctors, specialists in this disease.

Every house I enter for the benefit of my patients, protects me from all evil intentions and all temptations, especially from the sexual pleasures of women or men, whether they are human beings. freedom or slavery.

Everything I know in my practice or in communicating with people that should not be exposed, I will keep it confidential and will never reveal it.

If I keep this oath sincerely, I will enjoy my life and practice my profession, respected forever by everyone. If I go against the road and break my oath, the opposite will come to me.
